Twilight Ballers

Twilight Ballers aims to engage and increase the participation of Aboriginal adolescents within the field of sports. Delivered within a safe environment, Twilight Ballers is to promote healthy, active lifestyles in their pathways to adulthood.

BACKGROUND

Designed as an indoor program and delivered within a safe and supportive environment, Twilight Ballers aims to provide the opportunity for Aboriginal youths to:

  • Participate in diverse sports and sports activities;
  • Gain an increased awareness of nutrition, health and well-being (see attached BWC FUN program);
  • Engage and connect with other adolescents and Black White Cockatoo (BWC) Mentors. This is to reduce the opportunity for young people to be influenced into high risk and offending behaviours (see attached BWC Role Models and Mentors document);
  • Engage in a fun and enjoyable night; and
  • Engage with support services e.g. primary health care, social work intervention

Twilight Ballers uses a strengths perspective and personal capacity building approach to target youth. Twilight Ballers aims to work with participants in enhancing their self esteem, self worth and self capacity. To achieve this goal, members of BWC have extensive experience in the delivery of mentoring programs and intend to offer Twilight Ballers as apart of its services.

Twilight Ballers has adopted a prevention/early intervention approach to not only promote healthy, active lifestyles, but to provide the opportunity for participants to engage and positively connect with other youths.

Twilight Ballers will provide diverse sporting activities on the night, including:

  • Basketball
  • Football
  • Netball
  • Indoor Soccer
  • Table Tennis
  • Cricket
  • Volleyball
