Project Description
Black White Cockatoo has developed several packages for it's Culture & Heritage program. Our Corporate and
Teachers development package incorporates an overview of indigenous culture and heritage, including:
A dvd presentation
DVD includes
- A 15 minute educational (DVD)
- Ceremonies e.g. Corroboree (song, dance, music) (DVD)
- Story telling e.g. Dreamtime (presentation & interactive) (DVD)
- Making of instruments e.g. spears, boomerangs and didgeridoos (DVD)
- Hunting, gathering and tracking (DVD)
- Interviews with elders (DVD)
- Traditional lifestyle (DVD)
- Visual pictures of APY Lands and Uluru (DVD)
Interactive demonstration and participation
- Playing of instruments & corroboree e.g. didgeridoo, clapping sticks
- Aboriginal art e.g. paintings, carvings, rock art, body art
- Spear and boomerang throwing
- Traditional indigenous games & foods tasting e.g. kangaroo, witcherdy grubs, goanna
Each presentation goes for approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes is designed for no more than 60 participants at a cost of $2,000.
Our student presentations have been targeted at years 4, 5, 6, & 7 and are provided in 3 options for schools.
Option 1: Indigenous Dance & Music
- Corroboree demonstration & student participation
- Musical demonstration & student participation.
(Involving didgeridoos & clapping sticks)
- Learning indigenous song/s
Option 2 : Indigenous Art
- History of indigenous Art
- Styles of indigenous art
- Students make their own indigenous art creations
- Demonstration on making paint traditionally
- Group art creation on large canvas
Schools are to provide all paper & drawing implements
Option 3 : Boomerang/Spear throwing & Traditional
- Boomerang throwing tutorial
- Students throw boomerangs
- Spear throwing tutorial
- Students throw (modified) spears
- Students learn and play traditionalindigenous games
An educational dvd is provided at the end of each
presentation along with handouts to aid in teachers
follow up lessons. Each of the 3 options is 1 hour long
and has been designed for 60 students. This service is
free to all schools but bookings are essential.
